Obituary of Mabel May Campbell

It is with profound sadness that the family of Mabel Campbell announces her passing on Tuesday October 20, 2015 at the age of 92. Mabel was the beloved wife of the late Harold Campbell, dear mom and mother-in-law to Diane and Allan Rouse, cherished Nan of Andrew Rouse, Erin Rouse Shaw (Hamish) and Colin Rouse (Lisa) and awesome Grand Nan to Charles Shaw. Born May 4, 1923 in Sussex NB, Mabel was the daughter of Harry and Ada (Makepeace) Coates and sister to Albert, Dot, Harold, Hazel, Grace, Stan, George, Murray and Jean. It was in this loving home that the value of hard work and importance of family was instilled. After completing school she moved to Brown's Flat to help a recently widowed aunt with her family. It was there that her dear friend Gertie introduced Mabel to her brother Harold. It was love at first sight and they were engaged before he headed off to war. Upon his return they were married and settled in Saint John raising their daughter. Main St. Baptist Church became an important part of their lives and many long lasting friendships developed there. For many years Mabel enjoyed working with a great group of gals and guys at Sears in the North End. Mabel was thrilled to become a grandmother and Andrew, Erin and Colin were blessed by her presence in their daily lives. There were always homemade cookies, stories and boot and coat checks along with advice which she gave freely and frequently right up to the end. Their dutiful reply was always, "Yes Nan". At the age of 90 she welcomed her precious great grandchild Charles who immediately became a frequent flyer with his many visits from BC. The family extends heartfelt thanks to some very special people: Dr. Le and Amanda for their attention and care; hospital chaplain Mark for his chats and prayers; Pastors and Church Family of RiverCross for their support and prayers; special nieces/nephews and wonderful friends who brought such joy to her final years with visits, flowers, treats, special outings, and acts of kindness; and to Pam and Keziah who provided great care that allowed her to remain at home. All our love and thanks to those who shared this wonderful life with our Mom, Nan, and Grand Nan. The family extends an invitation to visit with them at the family home, 32 Yacht Haven Lane in Millidgeville on Saturday, October 24 from 2:00-6:00pm. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
