Obituary of Carrie Isobelle Devine
The family of Carrie Isabell Devine (Stackhouse), lifelong resident of Saint John and recently the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, regret to announce the passing of their dear mother on April 10th at the grand age of 102. A celebration of Carrie’s life will take place on Thursday, 16th April beginning with a visitation at 10am to be followed by a service of celebration and a reception. This will take place at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), near her treasured home where she raised her three children. Our mother always enjoyed reminding friends that she was born in West Saint John on Queen Victoria’s birthday, the 24th of May holiday. In her early years she saw more horses and buggies than cars on the streets of Saint John. She had many stories to tell of the amazing changes she saw during her long life. Carrie was the second daughter of James Alfred Stackhouse and Frances Stackhouse (Craig) and was predeceased by our father, her devoted husband John James (1983), her sisters, Nellie and Midge, and her brother, John. Carrie is survived by her daughter Janet Lynn Murray (Roland) of Halifax, sons, Robert Richard (Sharon) of Massachusetts, John Douglas of Quispamsis, grand children, Jason and Shannon, great grandchildren Megan, Roland and Alice, and several nieces and nephews. Our mother, always devoted to her family, sacrificed much to give her children a good start in life and throughout her life continued to offer friendship and encouragement to her family and close friends. She took a special interest in news of her great grandchildren. Though faced with many ailments in her declining years Carrie, always a determined fighter against the odds, was up and about every day until a few hours of her passing on Friday. With joy, we see so much of our mother in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and welcome those who wish to join in celebrating her life with us on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home Inc., the Alzheimer Society, the Red Cross or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Please place online remembrances and condolences at www.brenansfh.com.
