Obituary of William Albert McGrath
William Albert McGrath of Saint John, husband of the late Dorothy O. (Thorne) McGrath, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a period of failing health. Born in Saint John on August 26, 1924, he was a son of the late William and Katherine (Doyle) McGrath. Bill worked as a boilermaker and sheet metal worker for Saint John Shipbuilding. Bill spent his last five years at the Loch Lomond Villa High-Rise and was know to all as "The Candy Man". Bill is survived by his son, Michael McGrath (Mary Jane) of Saint John; grandchildren Sean McGrath (Carrie) of Quispamsis, Jillian McGrath (Lisa), Patrick McGrath, Pamela Landman (Mark), all of Whitecourt, AB, and Pamela Panek of New York; and great grandchildren Jack, Lincoln, Sophia, and Haidyn. Bill was predeceased by his son Timothy and grandson Kyle in 2005; a brother, Thomas; sisters Frances and Agnes; and half brothers Paul, Robert, and Jack Kilpatrick. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be observed. For those who wish, remembrances to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation or Romero House Soup Kitchen would be appreciated by the family.
