Obituary of Frances Phyllis Abbott
byIt is with great sadness the family of Frances Phyllis (Fillmore) (Scovil) Abbott announces her passing which occurred on February 1, 2015 surrounded her loving family. Born in Saint John, NB on October 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Gladys (Hughes) Fillmore. She was 95. Frances was active and volunteered with St. Luke’s Anglican Church ACW, which she was a life long member, Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary and Symphony New Brunswick. Frances is survived by four children, Joanne (Scovil) Braman, Fredericton Junction NB; Faith (Scovil) LeBlanc (Donny), Trois Ruisseaux, NB, Jane (Abbott) MacFarlane, Calgary AB, Christopher Abbott (Evelyn), Belyeaè's Cove; daughter in law, Elaine (Sonny) Scovil, Hampton, NB; also survived by 18 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Bonny (the late Bruce) Colburn, Eleanor (the late Robert) Hopkins, Gloria (Cecil) Jennings, Barbara (Ray) Stinson and brother, Clifford (Marion) Fillmore, many nieces, nephews and loved ones. Besides her parents she was predeceased by husband Louis Abbott; first husband Lorne Scovil; son, John "Sonny" Scovil; grandson, Patrick MacFarlane; brother, Willard (Bud); sisters, Gladys, Charlotte, Shirley. Frances worked for many years at Greens Tobacco Shop, head of King Street, Dominion Stores, and The Canadian Tire Store on Thorne Ave. Her passion was for family and music, especially classical music, she was an accomplished pianist and she loved to sing. She loved the visits from her grandchildren she loved the babies, "Massey" the pet therapy dog at the home and attending the symphony at the Imperial Theatre. She was known at the Turnbull Nursing Home for her yoga moves at 95. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 2-7 pm. A funeral service will be held from St. Luke’s Church on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens, following the service. For those who wish, remembrances made to Symphony New Brunswick or to St. Luke Church or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Sincere appreciation and thanks to the staff of Turnbull Nursing Home and special thanks to the palliative care nurses and staff for the wonderful care and attention given to our mother, also for the extended care to us, the coffee, tea, food and chats. You are truly angels.
