Obituary of Helen F. Wood

The death of Helen F. Wood of Saint John, beloved wife of the late David F. Wood occurred on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on May 19, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Georgie (Small) Merritt. Before retirement, Helen worked as a banker at the Bank of Nova Scotia. She also served as a treasurer for the Scotia Bankers, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, and a member of the Soroptimist Foundation of Canada, where she took the active role as treasurer. Helen is survived by her daughter Stephanie (Stephen) MacKellar; brother Edison Merritt; grandchildren, Amber, Sabrina, and Blair MacKellar; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Robin Wood; brother, Daryl Merritt; and sisters, Dorothy Thompson and Hazel Foster. Although there will be no visitation or funeral service, relatives and friends are invited to attend the committal service at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 1:30 PM. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
