Obituary of Newman Vincent Greer

The death of Newman Vincent Greer, husband of Lois McCorkle, of Rothesay, N.B. occurred on January 13th 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in St. Martins on September 5th, 1921 to the late Ernest and Florence (Marr) Greer. Newman was employed in the electrical department of Saint John Shipbuilding Company in his early years and retired in 1982 from the New Brunswick Telephone Company. He was a charter member of the New Brunswick Heart Surgery Support Group and a 73 year member of the Orange Lodge. He enjoyed bowling and spent many hours researching and compiling family history. Newman often entertained his family and friends by recalling stories and events of the past with his keen sense of humor. He was a great dad who instilled character, moral values and a strong work ethic in his family. As the patriarch of his family, his wisdom and humor will be dearly missed. Newman is survived by his wife and two sons; David (Sheila) Greer of Quispamsis and Larry (Gail) Greer of Rothesay, four grandchildren Brent (Elizabeth) Greer, Michael Greer, Leanne Greer and Matthew (Renee) Greer; six great-grandchildren Tyler (Kelsey) Smith, Meghan Greer, Owen Sherwood, Rebecca Greer, Katelyn Greer, Parker Sherwood; one great-great-granddaughter Peyton; one sister Edna Bennett; sister-in-law Betty (Wilfrid) Dean; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Newman was predeceased in 1963 by his first wife Jean (Charlton) Greer, the mother of his sons; brother-in-laws Robert Bennett and Gordon Charlton; granddaughter Krista. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (634-7424), with visitation on Sunday, January 17th, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, January 18th, 2016 at 10am followed by a reception. A private family interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Newman may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
