Obituary of John Robert Powell
With sadness the family announces the death of Robert "Bob" Powell, husband of Arlene (Cain) Powell at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, March 27, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born on July 23, 1926 in Saint John to the late Ernest and Vena (West) Powell. Bob lived in the greater Saint John Area all of his life including 36 years in Westfield where he and Arlene raised their family. In his early years, Bob obtained his Accounting Diploma and worked for Dunlop and Irving Oil Ltd. Bob then switched careers and was an owner/operator of various construction and real estate companies. He was an active member of Main Street Baptist/RiverCross Church and a former member of the Saint John Power Boat Club. Bob's hobbies included boating, woodworking, photography, golfing and reading. Bob is survived by Arlene his wife of 49 years; his sons: Peter (Jeannine St. Amand) of Frederiction and Blair of Saint John; grandchildren: Paige and Michael Powell; brother, Donald (Dorcas) of Saint John; sisters: Marjorie Terrell of Blaine, ME and Jean White (Joseph) of Saint John and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, George Powell. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm only. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:00 am. Interment will held in St. Joseph's Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish remembrances to a charity of choice would be appreciated by family.
