Obituary of Robert James Friars
It is with heavy hearts the family of the late Robert "Bob" J. Friars, beloved husband of 49 years to Linda K. Friars, announce his passing on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on April 2, 1946, he was a son of the late Mildred J. (Boyne) and James E. Friars. Bob worked for many years as an operator for Rothesay Paper. After retirement he enjoyed keeping busy by working with his son-in-law’s company and became particularly fond of the Western Star. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he loved immensely. Bob also had a passion for travel, which he satisfied with trips to Florida in the winter, cruises, and Nascar races with his loving wife, Linda. In addition to his wife, Linda, Bob will be missed by his daughers Shelley Freemantle (Jon Tracy) of Rothesay and Sheri Arthurs (Jason) of Summerville; brothers David Friars (Linda) of Nanaimo, BC and Gary Friars (Gail) of Belleisle; a sister Faye Dunlop (Alan) of Saint John; grandchildren Ryan, Tyler, Colton, Tiffany and Austin; and one great granddaughter, Ava; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 6-8 pm and Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 from Glen View United Church, 8 Upland Road, Saint John at 10:00 am with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Glen View United Church Memorial fund, or the John T. McMillan Jr. Memorial Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
