Obituary of Margaret Anne Wennberg
Margaret Anne Wennberg, wife of Erik T. P. Wennberg, died peacefully on Friday, May 11, 2007 at her home in Rothesay, New Brunswick. Margaret Anne was born in Hamilton, Ontario on January 17, 1914. She received her education at Strathallan Ladies’ College and McMaster University in Hamilton. Margaret Anne lived for periods in Halifax, Nova Scotia during WWII (while Erik served in the Royal Canadian Navy) and, after the war, in Winnipeg and Ottawa, moving to Rothesay in 1966. Margaret Anne was a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross for over 25 years, as well as with the Saint John YWCA and other charities. Throughout her life, Margaret Anne was a great supporter of animal welfare and environmental causes, and an enthusiastic supporter of Symphony New Brunswick and the Imperial Theatre. She was a dedicated and long-standing member of the ACW of St. Paul’s Church, Rothesay, and in 2002 her name was placed on the Diocesan Roll of Honour. She was a member of the Riverside Country Club in Rothesay and the Union Club in Saint John. For many years, Margaret Anne enjoyed a weekly game of bridge with her friends. More than anything else, she will be remembered by her family and friends as an incredibly wise, caring and thoughtful person, with a wonderful – and keen – dry wit. Margaret Anne was predeceased by her mother Agnes Balfour Brierley (née Hossack), her father Harold Percy Brierley, her husband Erik and her son Richard Pate Wennberg (Fall River, NS). She is survived by her daughter Anne Brierley Menzies (Barrie, ON) and her son Michael Douglas Wennberg and daughter-in-law Margaret (Blagrave) Wennberg (Rothesay, NB), by grandchildren James Michael Menzies (Toronto, ON), Robin Kathleen Quinn and her husband Taylor Quinn (Midhurst, ON), Megan Jane Brierley Wennberg (Halifax, NS), Phillippa Anne Wennberg (Toronto, ON) and Emily Harriet Hutton Wennberg (Rothesay, NB), and by great-grandchildren Dylan James Patrick Quinn and Parker Michael Quinn. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Margaret Anne’s caregivers in recent years, Susan and Allan Thomas, Debbie Jones, Diane Doiron, Marilyn Edwards, Lisa Barrett, Laureen Kirkpatrick and Maureen Riley, for their dedication and friendship. The family also wishes to express its appreciation to Dr. Karen Rombaut and to the nurses and other very professional staff of the KV Extra-Mural Program, who were so caring and supportive. Visitation will be at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) on Monday, May 14 between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Church, Rothesay on Tuesday, May 15 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Hamilton, ON at a later date. For those who wish, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Building Fund of St. Paul’s Church, Rothesay, the Imperial Theatre, Symphony New Brunswick or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
