Obituary of Ruth Lillian Squires
The death of Ruth Lillian (Shiels) Squires of Carleton-Kirk Lodge, formerly of Dominion Court, Saint John West, wife of the late Robert (Bob) Arthur Squires, occurred on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at her residence with family by her side. Born in Saint John on January 5, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Alice (Morris) Shiels. Until moving to the West Side in the 1960’s, she had been a north ender her whole life. Ruth was a former member of Mission Church when she lived in the North End and attended St. George’s Anglican Church while residing on the West side. She had volunteered in her younger years at the old Provincial Hospital and for the Progressive Conservative Party. Ruth always enjoyed a lively conversation about Politics. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Breen of Saint John, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald and Edward Shiels. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 11 am until the time of a reception at 1 pm. The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Although Ruth requested no flowers, remembrances may be made to the St. John Baptist and St. Clement (Mission) Church Building Fund, Millidgeville, the Resident Council Fund Carleton - Kirk Lodge, the Animal Rescue League or any charity of the donor’s choice. www.brenansfh.com
