Obituary of Ann E. Golding
Golding, Ann E. – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ann (Graham) Golding on Friday, December 7,2007, after a battle with cancer that she faced with strength and courage. Ann was the beloved wife and soul mate for 49 years of Jack Golding and the devoted mother of six – Chris of Calgary, AB, Stephen (Eileen Gatien), Tarie Golding-Carpenter (Kevin Carpenter), Ken (Glenna Boddington), Jacqui Phinney (Allan Phinney) and Cathy Golding (Brian McPhee) all of Saint John, NB. She was a loving nanny to Michael, Danielle, Gregory, Stephanie, Hannah, Eleanor, Jessica, Mitchell, Kailie and Evan Golding; Alexa and Catelyn Carpenter; and Nicole, Alec and Cathleen Phinney. Ann was a special wife, mom and nanny who always put her concern for others ahead of herself. Born on May 12, 1936 in Beaconsfield, NB, Ann was predeceased by her parents, John and Margaret (Burchill) Graham, and one brother, John Jr. She is survived by her brothers, James (Georgie) Graham of North Bay, ON, and Ronald (Doreen) Graham of Saint John and by her sisters, Theresa (George) McAuley, Marie (Rod) Hannah and Elaine (Tom) Gibbon, all of Saint John. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ann was very close to her siblings and they could often be found together having a coffee and a chat. After graduating from St. Vincent’s Girls High School in 1954, Ann worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital before leaving to start a family. In later years, she worked in the children’s department at Sears where she was known for her dedication and hard work. Ann also found time to volunteer as a Brownie leader at St. Rose. In 2004, Ann fulfilled a lifelong dream to visit her grandmother’s home in Ireland and she returned in 2006 to ‘kiss the Blarney Stone’. She was a proud Canadian who never forgot her Irish heritage. Ann loved to sing and was known to have a song for every occasion. She was also famous for her cooking (especially her desserts!). Devoted to her faith, she had a quiet strength that gave her courage and peace during her battle with cancer. All who had the good fortune to meet her said she was a most gentle and patient person who always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. May your day be touched by a bit of Irish luck, Brightened by a song in your heart, And warmed by the smiles of the people you love. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. A heartfelt thank you to all of our family and friends who lessened our burden with their offerings of support, food, babysitting and visits. A special thank you to Dr. Julia Wildest and to the staff of Palliative Care for their compassion and care of Ann during her illness. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday from 7 – 9 pm and Sunday from 2 – 4 and 7 - 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, December 10, 2007 from St. Peter’s Church, Clarendon Street, at 11:00 am. Interment to take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. A Reception will be held following the interment at Bayview Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice. www.brenansfh.com
