Obituary of Margaret Catherine Stevens
Stevens, Margaret Catherine : It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Aunt Margie at the SJRH after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. She was born June 6, 1920 and lived her entire life in East Saint John. She resided at 165 Loch Lomond Rd and formerly of Wilton St and Red Head. She was predeceased by her parents, John B and Minnie Stevens, her brothers Harold (Margaret) Stevens of Moncton, Samuel ( Genevieve) Stevens of Saint John and a sister Rita ( Gregory) McDermott of Saint John. She is survived by five nephews. John (Donna) McDermott of Halifax, Paul (Marjorie) McDermott of Saint John, Gary (Christine) McDermott of Ottawa, Dr Carl (Sandra) McDermott of Halifax , Harold Stevens of Saint John and one niece Lorraine (Bob) Margeson of Wilmot, NS along with several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Aunt Margie was very special to us. She was always there for the six of us and she was more like our mother than our aunt. We will miss her dearly. She thought of us as her children. She was very proud of our accomplishments and those of her great nieces and great nephews. She loved to converse with them about their travels and adventures. It kept her young at heart. She was an original member of Stella Maris Church and a member of the parish CWL. She volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society annual campaign and served as team captain for over ten years. She was also a member of the SJRH Arthritic Society. She served on various committees at the Loch Lomond Villa including Minister of the Eucharist at weekly Mass. Aunt Margie loved to be out doors , especially in the garden. She loved doing floral arrangements and enjoyed sewing and needlepoint . She was proud to have driven her car accident free for over fifty years. Prior to her retirement she was employed as Personnel Manager at Zellers on King Street for more than forty years. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), Saint John, NB, with visiting on Friday only from 2:00 until 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Stella Maris Church, Bayside Drive, at 10 AM on Saturday. Interment in St. Josephs Cemetery. Remembrances to the SJRH Palliative Care Unit or St Ann’s Church building fund or Stella Maris Church building fund would be appreciated by the family.
