Obituary of Richard Ross Hatchette
Surrounded by his loving family, the death of Dick Hatchette, husband of Rose (McCarthy) Hatchette occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, September 15, 2012. Born in Fairville, NB on December 16, 1922, he was a son of the late George Richard and Barbara (Munro) Hatchette. Dick was employed as a Cooper and a Longshoreman with Furness, Withy & Co. He was married to Rose, the love of his life, for 64 years. Dick grew up in St. Rose Parish in Fairville and was a member of St. Peter’s Parish since his marriage in 1948. Dick was an avid bowler and enjoyed a good card game, especially Auction 45’s. He and Rose enjoyed many years at their cottage in Chapel Grove with family and friends. Besides his wife, Dick is survived by a son, J. Richard "Rick" Hatchette of Saint John; daughter, M. Elizabeth "Beth" Nicholas (Graydon) of Fredericton; grandchildren: Michael Nicholas, of Fredericton and Brian Nicholas (Joanne Porter) of Kingman, AZ; great-grandson, Cato Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Allison Nicholas; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers: George, Frank, Gerald, and Leo; and sisters: Connie Hatchette, Blanche Miller, and Patricia Weiss. The family would like to thank the staff of Restorative Care and Transitional Care at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the staff of 4CN of the Saint John Regional Hospital and the staff of Turnbull Nursing Home for their professional and compassionate care of Dick. The family is appreciative to Father John Beaumaster, Father Doug McNeill, and Father Paul LeBlanc for their pastoral visits and spiritual care during Dick’s last days. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (506) 634-7424, with visiting on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter’s Church, 50 Clarendon Street, on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances to Turnbull Nursing Home or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.brenansfh.com.
