Obituary of Ronald Wilbert Johnston
The death of Ronald Wilbert Johnston of Saint John occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, September 28, 2012. Ron was born in Saint John on January 1, 1938 to the late Bernard and Gladys (Wardell) Johnston. Ron retired from the Saint John Fire Department as Deputy Fire Chief after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve for 28 years serving as the Commanding Officer of 3rd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery and Commander of the Western New Brunswick Militia District. He was an active member of the Rotary Club where he proudly received the Paul Harris Award. Ron was the Past President of the United Services Institute and the Royal Canadian Artillery Association. Besides spending time with his family Ron enjoyed photography, scuba diving, collecting stamps and coins as well as model planes. In the later years he took great pride in watching his grandchildren play Hockey and Lacrosse. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary-Lee (Anderson) Johnston; daughter, Lee-Ann Johnston, Saint John; son, Stephen (Lorrie) Johnston and their children, Drew and Demi; brother, Mel (Donna) Johnston; nephew Marc (Sue) Johnston. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 12:00. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances may be made to Parkinson Society of Saint John, Kidney Foundation of Canada or a charity of one’s choice.
