Obituary of Helen Barbara Likely

It is with great sorrow and much love that the family of Barb (Bammy) Likely conveys her passing at Chateau de Champlain, Saint John, NB, on January 2, 2013. Barb was the daughter of the late Robert Neil and Louise Eaton MacCunn of Fredericton, and was predeceased by the love of her life Robert Gordon Likely in 2010, after 71 years of marriage. She was born in Fredericton and educated both in Fredericton and at Netherwood School. After a period as a dental nurse in Fredericton and Montreal she joined her husband in Saint John NB as a homemaker and mother of three. Her interests were varied and her accomplishments many. As a member of St Andrews, Riverside, and Thistle-St Andrews Curling Club, she was a curler of note leading her teams to one provincial ladies title and two provincial senior titles. She also loved her summers in Westfield and golf at the Westfield Golf and Country Club, and particularly delighted in the "9"ers while Bob chased after Senior golf titles. Thanksgivings on the Miramichi, family gatherings at the lodge, winter vacations at Lake Wales and Daytona were all a part of her rich and full life. But nothing took precedence over her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all were a vital part of her life. Barb was a woman of solid and unshakable faith and was a longtime member of St. John’s (Stone) Church. She was active in the Chancel Guild, Little Helpers, and the ACW. She was also a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the YM-YWCA, the Catherine E. Black Chapter of the IODE, and a longtime member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club. She is survived by her three children, Ann Lysaght (John, recently passed away), Langley, BC; Neil Likely (Norma), Calgary, AB; and Nancy Syroid (Jack), Fredericton, NB. She was also loved and will be missed by her nine grandchildren, Pauline Lysaght (Andrew Benson), Allison Fujita (Kazunori), Heather Kennedy (Garth), Grant Likely (Caireen), Samantha Likely (Jason), Janette Funk (Darcy), Peter Syroid (Jessica), Karen Syroid (David Geris), Kimberly Syroid (Jon), as well as eleven great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by a large circle of friends. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visitation on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s (Stone) Church on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 2 p.m., followed by a private family interment at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to St. John’s (Stone) Church or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences and remembrances may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
