Obituary of Doreen E. Sparks

Doreen E. Sparks of Saint John, wife of the late Kenneth Sparks, passed away on October 19, 2012 at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born in Swindon, Wiltshire, England on September 19, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Edith (Attoe) Brown. A war bride, Doreen worked during World War II building tanks. She also enjoyed bingo, and was an avid bowler, even at age 80. Doreen is survived by her sons Michael (Eleanor) Sparks, John Sparks, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Doreen was the last surviving member of her family, predeceased by her parents, husband, son William (Bill) Sparks, and daughter Carole Downey. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Monday at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxillary will hold a tribute service on Sunday at 7:00 PM. For those who wish, remembrances to Muscular Dystrophy would be appreciated by the family.
