Obituary of Edna Velzora Parkin
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edna Velzora Parkin of Saint John, wife of the late G. William Parkin of 60 years, which occurred on Friday, August 3, 2012 at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born on October 29, 1919 she was a daughter of the late Beverly Samuel and Della Josephine (Gogan) Mills. Edna received her education at the Halifax School for the Blind, graduating in 1937. After graduating, she was employed with the C.N.I.B. White Wear Department in Toronto and also in Saint John. Edna also worked at Ganong’s Candy Factory, St. Stephen, NB. She taught several people braille. She was involved with C.N.I.B for many years and also with the Canadian Council of the Blind Saint John Club she held the position of Director of Finance on the C.C.B Maritime Division. Edna owned and operated a Ham Radio which she enjoyed for many years. Her hobbies were knitting and sewing in her early years. She also loved to read her braille books as well as her bible. She and her husband Bill were members of Full Gospel Assembly for many years and she was a deeply devoted Christian. She loved to socialize in the company of family and friends. Edna was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Art (Edith) Parkin, several nieces, nephews and cousins; chosen son, Kenneth Church; close friend, Yvonne LeBlanc as well as many other special friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Treva and Hazel and brothers, Evans and Don Mills. Despite being visually impaired, Edna was a very remarkable woman and never let anything stand in her way of a very happy and fulfilling life. The family would like to express their thanks to all of the staff at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, for the loving care and compassion she received while she was in their care. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
