Obituary of Ronald Holmes Long

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Ronald Holmes Long of Saint John, husband of Audrey Long, which occurred on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born on July 25, 1926 in Lower Mill Stream, NB, he was a son of the late James and Agnes (Holmes) Long. Ron graduated from Sussex High School and the Modern Business College. Ron was a veteran of WWII serving under the Carleton and York Regiment. After the war Ron worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia. He also worked as sales rep for Colgate Palmolive and became the maritime sales rep, and manager with Kimberly Clark, and then spent four years with the Corps of Commissioners. He retired as an entrepreneur of Long’s Tobacco Ltd. Ron was a life member of Commercial Travelers (Canadian Professional Sales Association). On July 2, 1949, Ron married the love of his life, Audrey Long. He is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Gail Mattson of Grand Bay - Westfield and James (Debbie) Long of Saint John; grandchildren, Ronda (Mattson) Perry, Christopher and Beau Long; one great-grandchild, Kassandra Warnock; one great-great-grandson, Jackson Kevin Melvin; several nieces and nephews. Ron was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, Albert Long, Burton Long, Jean Moore, Flora Watson, Freda Little and Hazel Drouin. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held form Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 12:00 noon. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish remembrances may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church (Soul Food Ministry), Bobby’s Hospice or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
