Obituary of Dorothy O. Sharkey
Dorothy Sharkey of Saint John, wife of the late Frederick Sharkey, passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2013. Born in Saint John on July 20, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Sarah (Slihey) Harley. Dorothy was a woman of very strong faith, praying the rosary daily; sometimes twice. She also enjoyed singing, and always looked forward to Christmas, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons Fredrick (Edna), Harold (Lynn), Gary, Eugene Ritchie; daughters Jeanette McKinnon, Carolyn (David) Smith, Ann Whalen, Dorothy (Gilbert) Soucey and Lorraine (Kenneth) Parlee. Dorothy is also survived by two sisters; Betty Didushok of Las Vegas, and Francis Guthrie of Saint John. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was pre-deceased by a daughter, Eleanor Sharkey, sisters Mary Stackhouse, Evelyn Ritchie and Rita Harley, and brothers Norman, Edward, Harold, Ronald, Gregory and John. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Ann’s Church, 144 Simpson Drive, on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
