Obituary of Beverly Gordon Appleby

With deep sadness, but grateful for a long and happy life, the family of Bev Appleby announces his passing on October 30, 2012 at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. He was born in Saint John on September 27, 1920 to Beverly Gordon & Muriel H. (Olive) Appleby. Bev was educated in area schools graduating from Saint John Vocational School in 1937. He served with RCAF Squadron 437 as a wireless operator/mechanic and was stationed in Blakehill Farm, Swindon, England and Zandemonton, Belgium during WWII. After his discharge in 1945 as a Corporal, Bev worked in the family business, the National Packing Company, and later as an insurance adjuster/owner of Appleby and Manzer Insurance Adjuster Co. Bored with early retirement, he went to work for SJ Shipbuilding in the insurance department, retiring for good in 1982. A man of faith, he was a member of Main Street Baptist Church for 92 years. Also an avid sailor, he was a founding member of the Martinon Yacht Club as well as a member of the RKYC. He was a founding member of the LanSan Cribbage Club in 1952. He belonged to the Lancaster Golden Service Club, Masonic Lodge FMAM (68 years), the Luxor Temple, and the Oriental Band. Bev had a great love for the Saint John River where he spent every summer since his youth exploring its estuaries and in later years enjoying its beauty from his summer home on the Washademoak Lake. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lynn; granddaughter, Trisha Boucher (Eric); great-grandsons, Max and Spencer; honorary daughter, Connie (Hicks) Wilcox (David); brother, Mac (Norma) and brother-in-law, Bill Nase (Marilyn Machum). Bev was predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene M. (Lynch) in 2001; son, Rick in 2007; nephew, Bill Nase in 2007; niece, Pat (Nase) Davis in 2011 and sister, Jean Nase in 1981. A heart felt thank you to everyone at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing for the exceptional care that Bev received during his stay. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. There will be two tribute services on Friday: the Masonic Lodge Service at 7:00 pm and the RCL Service at 7:30 pm. The funeral service will be held from Main Street Baptist Church on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to Main Street Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
