Obituary of Flora Marguerite Bulmer
Flora "Peggy" Marguerite Bulmer of Saint John passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born on March 21, 1920 in Loggieville, NB she was the eldest daughter of the late Alexander and Ellen (Foley) Russell. Peggy’s volunteer commitment to her community is well known; most particularly she dedicated her time, talent and energy to the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Peggy’s diligent efforts in developing a record keeping system and computerizing accounting records helped to make the Hospital Auxiliary a leader among auxiliaries. She organized and directed a Diversional Therapy Program, which provided materials and activities for long term patients. Peggy was a veteran of WWII serving in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She was a national board and life member of the Presbyterian Women’s Mission Society and a longtime battler of Arthritis who also facilitated the Arthritis Self-Management Program at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was a faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Peggy was the recipient of the Canada Volunteer Award for volunteer service to her community. Peggy is survived by her children, Heather (Don) Cowper of Campbell River, BC; George (Dianne) Bulmer of Waterdown, ON and Sherry (Stephan) Martin of Stanhope, PEI; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Alena McKinley, Dorothy Creighton (James), Eileen Lobban, Frances (Gordon) Tetford and Betty Barrett; several nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her parents, husband, William Howard (Red) Bulmer and sister, Helen Arnold. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Grace Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
