Obituary of Michael Joseph Reid
Surrounded by his family the death of Michael Reid, husband of Gisèle (Downing) Reid occurred on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Bobby’s Hospice. He was born on April 4, 1946 in Saint John to the late Roy and Patricia (Murphy) Reid. Michael obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from St. Thomas University, and taught in District 8 at St. John the Baptist School and St. Malachy’s High School. Michael was a loving husband and father, and devoted grandfather, and was affectionately called "Bub" by his grandchildren. A "kid at heart" himself, Michael treasured the many adventures he shared with his grandchildren. He was an avid tennis and badminton player and loved to travel with his wife and family. Besides his devoted wife Gisèle, Michael is survived by his children: Erin Vautour (Jason) of Quispamsis; Christine McKenna (Matthew) of Quispamsis and Adam Reid (Jeff Donovan) of Saint John; grandchildren: Jocelyn Vautour, Mitchell, Luke and Carly McKenna; brothers: Ronald (Lee) of Kamloops, BC and Thomas (Jane) Reid of Inverary, ON; sisters: Cathy Henderson (Bev), Mary Lou Reid and Susan Reid, all of Saint John; his mother-in-law, Florestine Downing of Shediac; a special aunt, Florence McLaughlin of Saint John West; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grand puppy, Daisy; who "enjoyed" long walks with him. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Theresa Reid; niece, Mary Henderson; and father-in-law, Joseph Downing. He was also predeceased by Marie (Albert) Paradis and Alfred Crowley. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 2:00 – 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby’s Hospice, the SPCA, or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
