Obituary of Dorothy Olga McGrath

Dorothy "Dot" Olga McGrath of Saint John, wife of William A. "Bill" McGrath, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Loch Lomond Villa. Born in Saint John on August 5, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Adelene (Armstrong) Thorne. Dot worked as a cost accountant at Ocean Steel for more than thirty years. In addition to her husband of 64 years, Dot is survived by her son, Michael McGrath (Mary Jane) of Saint John; grandchildren Sean McGrath (Carrie) of Quispamsis, Jillian McGrath (Lisa), Patrick McGrath, Pamela Landman (Mark), all of Whitecourt, AB, and Pamela Panek of New York; and great grandchildren Jack, Lincoln, Sophia, and Haidyn. Dot was predeceased by her son Timothy and grandson Kyle in 2005; by a brother, Allan Thorne; and by a sister, Pamela Thorne. The family would like to thank the staff of the Loch Lomond Villa, Birch Lane, for the excellent care and compassion given to Dot during her time with them. In keeping with Dot’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be observed. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation or the SPCA-Animal Rescue would be appreciated by the family.
