Obituary of Goldie Christine Mawhinney
The death of Goldie Mawhinney occurred at Bobby’s Hospice on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. She was born on April 30, 1918 in Back Bay to the late Peter and Lulu (Towers) Hooper. Goldie worked for Connor’s Brothers Ltd. for many years. In her spare time, Goldie enjoyed knitting and cleaning. She is survived by son, Dale Cooke (Roma) of Calgary, AB and daughter, Judy Corey (Randall) of Saint John; brother, Guilford Hooper of St. Andrews; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Goldie was predeceased by her husbands: Charlie Cooke (1974) and Ellis Mawhinney (1994); sisters: Esther Hooper, Anges Oliver, Myrtle Hooper, Alma Corey and Beulah MacFarlane and brothers: Mason, Kirby, and Stinson Hooper. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in St. George Rural Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby’s Hospice and the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
