Obituary of Walter Edmund Whittaker

It is with broken hearts that the family of Walter E. Whittaker announces his passing, which occurred on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Walter was born in Saint John, NB on Father’s Day, June 17, 1940, to the late Kenneth G. and Winnifred (Hulme) Whittaker. Walter and his wife Marilyn A. (Watson) celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on September 29, 2012. Walter spent 47 years in the meat cutting trade. He was employed with Kwik Pik as the meat manager until its closing in 1982. He ran a part-time meat cutting business at home and for a number of years enjoyed snowplowing in the winter. He retired in 2004 after 25 years as a School Bus Driver with District 8 School Board, Province of NB and a member of Local 830. Walter was a member of Tabernacle United Baptist Church and served in several positions over the years. He enjoyed bowling and until his illness was a member of the KV Monday Night League. Carpentry was a favourite activity and he made numerous pieces of furniture, decorative garden pieces, garages and mini-barns. Along with his Dad he built his own home. He loved to play board games with his grandkids; "Washers" and pool with family and friends. An avid outdoorsman during earlier years, he enjoyed snowmobiling, ATVing and ice fishing. He loved travelling and trailering. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, two sons: W. Paul Whittaker, his wife, Kelly and their children, Brittany, Matthew, Ryan, Bethany and Brooke, all of Saint John; Leighton A. Whittaker and his wife, Sherry and their children, Leighton Sean and Sharica of Rothesay; one daughter, M. Dawn Johnston, her husband Michael, their daughter, Ainsley, of Norton; sister, Agnes Thompson of Saint John; brother, George A. Whittaker (Janet) of Norton; sister-in-law, Marion Whittaker; aunt Irene Hulme; nieces, nephews, cousins and the Watson family. He is predeceased by his parents; his parents-in-law, Clara and Charles Watson; brothers, Kenneth, Gordon, Frederick; infant sister, Shirley Diane; brother-in-law, Elson Thompson and nephews, Steven Whittaker, Robert Whittaker and David Thompson. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
