Obituary of Michael Joseph Fitzpatrick

On September 15, 2012, Michael Fitzpatrick died at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a brief illness. He was born March 29, 1924 in Chatham NB, the son of the late Michael and Gwendolyn (MacDonald) Fitzpatrick. He was predeceased by his older sister Frances MacRae (Sanford) and his brother Earl (Ila). He is survived by his wife of 58 years Marion ( Downes ), sons Kenneth Michael ( Deborah McQuade ) Fredericton, Dr. Stephen John ( Russell Venter ) Vancouver, and daughter Eleanor Anne, Halifax. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christopher, Sarah, Jason and Lauren Fitzpatrick, sister Evelyn Johnson (John), sisters-in-law Mildred Brydges and Marion Howard plus several nieces and nephews. Michael was a decorated veteran of WW ll having served in the South Alberta Regiment in France, Belgium and Holland. He remained active with the South Alberta Regiment Association attending many of their reunions with Marion. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 64. He worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs for 37 years retiring in 1990. He and Marion enjoyed a wonderful retirement filled with travel, adventure and were great companions. Michael enjoyed golfing with his friends and was especially proud of hitting two holes-in-one during those years. His family will be meeting friends and family on Tues, Sept. 18th at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424 from 2 – 4pm and 7 – 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day, Wednesday, Sept. 19th at 10 am at St. Pius X Church, Somerset St, Saint John, NB. A tribute to a Veteran will be held on Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00 pm. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to St. Pius X Church Restoration Fund, Bobby’s Hospice, University of New Brunswick Scholarship Fund or any charity of the donor’s choice.
