Obituary of David John O'Brien
With his family at his side the death of David O’Brien, husband of Marlene (Roberts) O’Brien occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 after a valiant battle with Cancer. He was born on September 7, 1944 in Saint John to the late Charles and Mary (McLaughlin) O’Brien. David worked at Saint John Shipbuilding for many years until it closed; recently he worked as a security guard at Brunswick Square. David and Marlene attended church at Full Gospel Assembly. In his youth, David enjoyed fishing and hunting and playing cards especially cribbage. Besides his wife Marlene, David is survived by his sons: Michael (Bonnie) and John both of Rothesay; daughters: Anna Blackwell (Wayne) of Quispamsis, Deborah O’Brien (Mark Grant of Upperton and Helen Gillis (Sean) of Lepreau; twin brother, Donald (Shirley); sisters: Barbara Brown (Marvin), Bonnie Woods (Gerald), Anne McCutchen, Evelyn Dugay and Christina Hazelwood (Norman); step-children: Marlene Laplante, Susan Shay, Christopher Shay and Robert Shay and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers: Joseph and Edward and sister, Marion. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday from 2:00 – 9:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Full Gospel Assembly, 34 Mount Pleasant Avenue on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 9:30 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
