Obituary of Edwin Landry

With heavy hearts, the family of Ed Landry, loving husband of Amella (Renaud) Landry, announce his passing on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born December 9, 1936 in Cap-Bald, NB, he was a son of the late Romuald and Dora (Donelle) Landry.

Ed was brought up in Pictou until the age of 19, when he met the love of his life, Amella, at his father’s lobster factory on les Iles-de-la-Madeleine. They settled in Saint John to raise their family in 1959. He loved hunting, fishing, playing guitar and cards. He fished sturgeon and bass for years on the Kennebecasis and Hammond Rivers. His greatest catches were measured by the length of his grandchildren, with his proudest catch being a 43” striper bass.

Ed was an electrician, opening his businesses, Ed Landry Electrical and Ed Landry Sportscraft, before working for Delta Electric, Imperial Electric, and The Rocca Group.  He was proud to be instrumental in the building of the Saint John Regional Hospital, where he stayed on as their Head Electrician until his retirement.

In addition to his wife of over 62 years, Amella, Ed is survived by his children: Lise Landry, Albert Landry (Eldena), Donald Landry (Lori), Claudette Spear (Gerald), Claude Landry (Norma), and Annette Wolno (Fred); grandchildren: Marc, Adam, Amanda, Katie, Nicholas, Samantha, Laura, Nicole, Emily, John, Joseph, Monique, and their spouses; great-grandchildren: Dawn, Alex, Cole, Sequoia, Seth, James, Chloe, and Baby Runcie on the way; brothers and sisters: Alcide Landry, Ola Landry, Jeanne Landry, Murielle LaPierre, Ronald Landry, Rhoda Landry, and their families; special cousin, “Uncle Charlie”; aunt, Edmée (Donelle) LeBlanc; and several other extended family members. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his son, Ricky Landry.

The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Dr. Jeff Douglas; Dr. James Collings; Extra Mural Nurses: especially Daphne; and nurses and staff of 5CN and 3BN at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and a special neighbour Debbie. Your kindness and care of Ed will not be forgotten.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
