Obituary of Doreen Theresa Holt
Surrounded by her loving family Doreen (Carvell) Holt, wife of the late Jack Holt, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 3rd, 2019. Born February 16th, 1926 in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Veronica (Cusack) Carvell.
Together with her husband, Doreen owned and operated Holt’s Transfer and Express Ltd. and Buns Master Bakery. She enjoyed traveling and wintered several years in Florida. Doreen was very passionate about Canadian and world politics. She also enjoyed playing cards at various card clubs in East Saint John. Above all, Nanny loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doreen is survived by her daughter Diane Holt and son John Holt (Arlene); grandchildren Stephanie Childs (Michael Teed), John Childs (Sara), Christine Childs (Bradley Baxter), and Jenna Granger (Aaron); great-grandchildren Theodore, Henry, Jack, Levi, Colin, Leah, and one on the way; her brother George; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Donnie Dwyer; sisters Florence Jenkins, Mary Bates, Kay McCarthy, and Betty Douglas; and brothers Frank and Hamel.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 at 12:10 pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street. Interment will follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the Cathedral Restoration and Waterloo Village Revitalization Projects or the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family. www.BrenansFH.com
