Obituary of Nancy Fowler Dawes
Nancy Dawes, wife of the late Douglas Dawes, passed away peacefully on Friday May 24th, 2019 at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home where she had resided for the past nine years. Born in Port Hope, Ontario on May 23rd, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles Albert and Annie (Moss) Fowler
At the age of 20 Nancy joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) and was posted to Sydney, NS where she met Douglas and they married on Sept 23rd, 1945. Nancy was always interested and conversant in current affairs and the weather!! She loved to read, play bridge and enjoyed music. She had a passion for travel and to follow the adventures and exploits of her children and grandchildren.
She was a loving mother to four sons: John (Valerie) of Regina, SK, David of Surrey, BC, Steve (Kathleen McKim) of Quispamsis, NB and Allan of Dartmouth, NS. She was grandmother to Terry Dawes, Andrea Dawes Coupal, John MacDonald, Shane MacDonald, Michael Dawes, Brent Dawes; great-grandmother to: Sophie, Gabe, Maxx, Xander, Asher and Henry; she was also survived by her sister, Mildred Jeffrey of Hamilton, ON, along with several nephews and nieces.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and volunteers of the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home. Their care and compassion towards Mom will never be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation or public service. A graveside service will be held at Greys Island Cemetery, Hillsborough, N.B. at a later date. If so desired, donations to the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home, Inc., 130 University Ave. Saint John, N.B. would be most appreciated.
