Across the years and thousands of miles we managed to keep in touch with Joyce and Howard, something we have been grateful for. Howard and Peter met in the early 80's. Perhaps at a literacy seminar Howard was involved in. But certainly later at the Thursday business luncheons at Stone Church, where Howard, Ian Lewis and Peter had lively discussions and Tom Robinson gave some great lessons and talks. Our discussions at that time were varied. From faith and religion to politics, social justice, environment, literature and freedom. Peter's warmest memories are probably the spring and summer lunch get-togethers at King's Square. It was a formative time for Peter and Howard was certainty a mentor, and will for many reasons be remembered with warmth and affection. Condolances from Denmark, Mette Breum and Peter Wade.

Dear Joyce and Linda
As you both know, Howard in his quiet but determined manner, contributed to our community (and internationally) in many ways. Over his long professional and volunteer career, education was a passion. He was instrumental in the work of the Literacy Council and the Learning Exchange. He chaired the Board of the Human Development Council. We know he was involved in much more. I always enjoyed working with Howard because he cared about the issues and he cared about the people he worked with.
My thoughts are with you both.
Sincerely, Cathy Wright

I first met Howard when I worked at the Saint John Public Library back in 1974/75. I would bump into over the years after I had left that position. A kind gentle man who always found time to ask how I was doing & was truly interested in the response. My condolences to all. Cherish your memories.

Dear Joyce and Family,
We were saddened to hear about Howard's passing and extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences for your loss. We have fond memories of Howard over the years, especially when Howard and Bernie were members of the Fortnightly Club together.
One of Bernie's favourite times with Howard was when he pulled out some old cylinder recordings at one of the Club meetings and the device to play them on, and treated everyone present to tunes from the early 1900s. Bernie never forgot that experience. Howard always had such a kind and quiet disposition and we are indeed blessed that he was a part of our lives. We will miss him dearly.
Our caring thoughts and prayers are with you as you reflect on his life and many contributions.
Most sincerely,
M

Joyce,
I was saddened to read of Howard's passing.
I don't think I ever saw him without reminding him that he was my favorite Sunday School teacher.
The time in his adult SS class taught us to search out truth, for ourselves, through the scriptures.
