Obituary of Marie Horstmann
The death of Marie Horstmann, wife of the late August Horstmann, occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Turnbull Nursing Home. Born on June 25, 1923 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Bertha K. (McLeod) Beckett.
Marie worked at New System Laundry and volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross during WWII, before moving to the United States where she began a career in accounting. Marie loved fashion, was an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking and sharing many wonderful recipes with her family.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Claudelle Horstmann; nieces and nephews, Beth Vaughan (Daniel), Ann Johnston (Dave), Joe Beckett (Myra), Bruce Beckett (Debbie), Kim Beckett (Linda) Keith (Carol) and Kelly Beckett; special great-nieces, Katie and Emily Vaughan; as well as several great-nephews and great-nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Fred (Margie), Ronald (Flash), Joe, Roy, Terry and Marcia; niece, Kathy Bull and great-nephew, Matthew.
Marie’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the entire staff of Turnbull Nursing Home for the exceptional care and friendship that was always provided to her.
A private family funeral service will take place at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
