Visitation
Obituary of Michael Leo Doherty
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Michael Leo Doherty, loving husband of the late Lauretta (Henderson) Doherty, announces his passing which occurred on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Dalhousie, NB on October 28, 1948, he was a son of the late James and Alice (Heppell) Doherty.
Mike retired in 2010 after 39 years with Irving Pulp and Paper. He and Lauretta raised three children, Heather, James and Maureen, who gave him his beloved grandchildren Milo, Abby, Lily, Owen and Jack, who knew him as “Papa”. Along with his siblings Helen (Bas), Peter, Anne and John (Barb), they will all miss him dearly.
Mike had a wide range of passions. He was an avid sports enthusiast, both as a spectator and a participant. He especially enjoyed golfing with Lauretta while they spent their summers in Coles Island. He enjoyed mysteries and comedies, crossword puzzles, fine food shared with friends, craft beer, and coffee. He was always willing to try something new; in recent years he had been kayaking and zip-lining.
He was well known for his humor and was an excellent storyteller. He was honest and reliable, and could always be turned to for help and advice.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 6-8 pm. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
