Obituary of Donna Marie Friars

It is with a sense of great loss and appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Donna Friars of Saint John announce her passing which occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born on September 25, 1936 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Iona (Friars) Lee.

 

Donna excelled in athletics throughout her life and particularly was skilled at bowling and softball.  Her sporting accomplishments included winning the maritime women’s softball title in 1958, attending the Canada Summer Games in 1969 where she represented New Brunswick in softball and winning the New Brunswick Candlepin Championship in 1971 as a member of the St. Peter’s Saints.  Donna will always be fondly remembered for her caring and gentle ways and will be dearly missed.

 

Donna will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Carol Friars, Robert Lee (Mary), Wayne Lee (Mary) and Dianne “Cookie” Schaefer; as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her siblings, Marie, Phyllis, Eleanor, Connie, Vivian, Donald, Edward, Bobby and Gordon.

 

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  The funeral liturgy will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM.  Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery at a later date.

 

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Arthritis Society NB, Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue, Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB.
