Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Buck
The passing of Mary Elizabeth Buck occurred after a period of declining health, on the evening of September 30, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Lound, Nottinghamshire, England on July 21, 1928, only daughter of George and Rhoda Roe. In the 1950’s her husband accepted a position in Canada, and she arrived a few months later and traveled to Winnipeg with their two daughters. The family also lived in Regina and Ottawa, before coming to Saint John in 1961. Mary was actively involved in the community. She was member of the Women’s Symphony, a “Brown Owl” at St. Luke’s Church, Saint John Hospice and many other committees over the years as well as working part time at Heritage Book shop on King Street for several years.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald (2006), three brothers, Edward, Allen and Bertram and great grandson, Simon. She is survived by her daughters, Helen and Judith (Gallant), her beloved grandchildren, Peter Ball and Elizabeth Ball (Pierre Bellec), three great grandsons, Louis, Edouard and Felix Bellec, son-in-law Thomas Gallant and his daughter Chyloe, as well as several nieces and nephews in England.
Mary will be remembered by her many friends for her good humour and kindness. She was a fine cook, voracious reader, music lover and knitter of teddy bear sweaters. “Granny” loved to travel, sit in Judy’s beautiful garden, and was very fond of Helen’s lemon pie!
The family thanks Dr. Van Niekerk and nursing staff at 5AN Saint John Regional Hospital for their amazing support and kindness.
