Obituary of Elsie Isabel Gillcrist

With appreciation for a life well-lived, the family of Elsie Gillcrist announces her peaceful passing, which occurred Monday, December 16, 2019 at the Loch Lomond Village. Born in Bains Corner on June 5, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William John “Jack” and Valetta (Grant) Verner. She was a loving wife to the late Roy A. Gillcrist for 52 years before his passing in 1995.

 

Elsie was a school teacher in St. Martins for a few years before moving to the Lakewood area of Saint John and staying home to raise her family. She was a member of Silver Falls United Church, and loved dancing, reading, country music and anything Irish.

 

Elsie will be missed by her sons, Sterling Gillcrist (Barb) and Gregory; grandchildren, Kim (Jordan), Scott (Corinne) and Jonathan (Julie); great grandchildren, Zachary, Sarah, Alex, Ryley, Ryan, Oliver, Claire and Grayson; her sister, Irene Ricketts (the late Allen); as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was predeceased by an infant son, Glendon, and daughter Dale Mannett (Whitfield “Ducky”).

 

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday December 18, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 12:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at St. Martins Community Cemetery at a later date.
