Obituary of Hazel Doreen Northrup
The family wishes to announce the passing of Hazel Doreen Northrup, which occurred at home after a period of failing heath on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Hazel was born in Saint John NB and was the daughter of the late Eldon and Lila (Arrowsmith) Kirkpatrick.
After graduating from Saint John High School Hazel went to work for the Canadian General Insurance Company. After her marriage to Don she stayed at home until her family had grown up. Hazel had a flare for decorating and embellished her talent by taking various interior design courses. She used her expertise and help in her family’s furniture store for many years. Hazel was a past member of the IODE. Hazel loved music and it gave her great pleasure especially when she was able to help and teach her grandchildren to learn to play the piano and sing.
Hazel and Don spent time each winter at their home in Florida. They attended the Community Church, met and enjoyed many friends and many church activities. Hazel and her sister Jean sang in the church choir and participated in the church musicals.
Hazel and Don attended many business conventions and traveled to various places over the years.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Don Northrup; three sons, Rob Northrup (Jeannie), Dan Northrup (Kelly), Troy Northrup (Andy), and her daughter, Krista Gulliver (Chris); her sisters, Jean Penney, Shirley Fifield (Doug), and her brother, Bob Kirkpatrick (Rhoda) her sister-in-law, Judy Clark (Mel) and five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Hazel was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Doug Northrup and by her father and mother-in-law, Charles and Bertha Northrup, brother-in-law, Herb Penny.
A private family funeral service was held at St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, interment has taken place in Fernhill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). For those who wish
