Faye was a friend of my mothers. My mother Myrna Reid (Haynes) would have been there at her funeral, but she also passed away January 2020. She often talked about Faye and everything she learned from her. She loved her dearly . I am thinking of your family at this time.

It was a pleasure to share a couple of weeks visiting with my cousin Faye (her father and my grandfather Frederick William Somers were brothers) in 2015 in Saint John NB. She showed us around and we went through the family archives, photos and newsclippings ( which she gave me a few ) and she also took us on a tour of the family graves. It was a wonderful visit, and we travelled across Canada to visit her from New Westminster, BC. The photo was taken in 2015 of cousin Faye Somers and I at my great grandparents graveside and her grandparents graveside in Fernhill Cemetery in Saint John New Brunswick I will always remember dear Faye and miss her upbeat and fun personality. R.I.P. sweetheart. ~ Candice James

I just now read of Faye's passing in the spring. My mom and Faye were friends in Shannex and enjoyed each other's company. Faye was smart, experienced and a lot of fun around the Bingo table. When my mother had to give up the chair's position of the Residence Committee, she handed the responsibility over to Faye as she knew the committee would be well looked after. Always looking her best, Faye was a proud, independent and interesting lady with many accomplishments and I always enjoyed her company. My condolences to Faye's family on her passing.

I just now read the passing of Faye Somers. In 1965 I met Miss Somers as the teacher of Grade ten Beauty culture at saint John Vocational. She was a beautiful lady and teacher,when she spoke we listened. We students treated her with much respect until the end of our three year graduation in 1967..In those days all students were placed in a salon to begin our career as Hairdressers ,to my surprise she told me the I would be working at a salon that she first worked at.and I felt so honored. To show our love for her we asked he to attend a dinner at a restaurant up town saint John She arrived looking so beautiful in street clothes which we had never seen,as she and all we students wore our uniform of black shirt,white top and white duty shoes.We gave her a dozen red roses and had a lovely evening and we shed a few tears on our goodbyes. Heaven received another angel ,rest in sweet peace Miss Somers. To her family i send my condolences,and will pray for strength and peace in the coming days.

My sincere condolences to the Somers family. I just found out today that we lost Faye in mid April. I was privileged to work with Faye for several years while organizing the Saint John Canterbury Tales Literary Festival. She was a tireless worker and a stickler for perfection. But we also had a lot of fun. She never lost the twinkle in those eyes. In later years I sometimes saw her at cultural events in the city and we would have a lovely catch-up. Most recently, we met several times at Shannex,and were able to enjoy a good chat. I always admired her dedication to whatever project she was concerned with and her boundless enthusiasm for life, Her spirit never flagged, even as her body slowed her down (and how she resented that!). What a beautiful and gracious lady, outside and in.She will be missed by all who knew her. Carole MacFarquhar

We were so sorry to hear of Faye's passing - her vibrancy, kindness, attractiveness and work ethic made her a standout all her life. Her love for Joy was evident to all. Faye helped us "fill in the blanks" of the Downey genealogy at various times over the years. She will be missed.

Faye was a shining light, historian, and avid supporter of the Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick. She was my mentor, she taught me compassion, patience, support and strength and of course proper grammar. In October, our organization was so blessed to have her attend our Atlantic Cosmetology Event as our honorary member. We will miss her dearly and we extend the deepest of sympathies to her family, and friends. RIP dear Faye xo

To the extended family and friends of Faye Somers
I can not begin to express how shocked and saddened we, the executive and membership of the Saint John Vocational Alumni Association, were to learn of Faye's passing.
We had just learned recently of her 90th birthday in March and were looking forward to some of the Alumni members getting together with her to celebrate when this corona virus isolation passes.
As we reminisce on her life one thinks of how she worked hard to impart lessons of life, love and care along with Beauty Culture knowledge. She had a tremendously positive impact on many lives, shaping the lives of many of her students.
We wish to acknowledge her many years of faithful contributions to Saint John Vocational School (teacher, counselor) and also the Alumni (author, SJVS In Retrospect) as long as her health allowed. She enjoyed being able to take part at our yearly Christmas Dinner and Dance's as well as many class reunions she was able to attend over many years.
Much of who Faye was will continue to live on for many years in the lives of students who had her as a teacher or Guidance Counselor. She was greatly loved and respected and has left many wonderful memories.
What a beautiful, full life lived.... a gift to her generation and Family.
May the Lord comfort you, her extended family and friends at this time and bring back to remembrance the many wonderful ways she contributed to the enjoyment of life in her family, community and business spheres. God bless you as you move forward into this new season of your lives without her.
Sincerely;
Louise Jonah-Craine ('62)

Faye introduced herself as we sat together waiting for a theatrical production at Harbour View High School. Right away I thought what a friendly & thoughtful lady ! During intermission she complimented me on my hairstyle & I discovered her involvement in the Beauty Culture Business & teaching career of which she was justly proud. We met on a few other occasions & had some lively discussions on various topics....a bright mind. Rest now Faye & thanks for affording me the opportunity to meet you . Sonia

My sincere condolences to Faye’s family and friends. When I lived at Brentwood Faye was a joy to meet. She always complimented my hair, and told me to make sure I told my hairdresser. She told me curly hair was the hardest to cut and style and not to give up the person I went to. Faye was a lovely lady.
