To the family of James "Sonny" Garnett;
On behalf of the executive and fellow membership of Saint John Vocational Alumni Association, I send most sincere sympathy in the loss of your dear husband, father, brother, uncle and cousin, Sonny. Sonny was a faithful supporter of our "Voc" Alumni until his health no longer permitted.
Our thoughts and prayers for strength and comfort are with you as you traverse this most difficult path on the road of life. May you be comforted in knowing that we are thinking of your family at this time when isolating and distancing makes grieving even harder on loved ones. Hold on to all your great memories and keep them forever in your hearts. God Bless you and guide you all through this most difficult time.
Sincerely;
Louise Craine ('62)

My deepest condolences to Sonny's family. Sonny, I am going to take them on a short trip down memory lane if I may.
Hard to believe this happened 50 years ago. I was playing hockey in Providence, Rhode Island when my brother Dave called me from the Foxboro race track and asked if I could get a number of tickets for our game the next night. Anything for a bunch of Maritimers! There was Dave, Sonny, Clifford Doucet, Moe Doherty and Bobby Stevenson who came to the game. Anyone else who was also there please forgive my memory or lack thereof. We all went to the First and Last Chance saloon after the game where Sonny demonstrated his musical abilities joining in with the local band; first playing the spoons, and then giving forth with a fine rendition of Blue Spanish Eyes. One of my fondest memories from hockey even if Sonny forgot the words half way through the song! LOL.
Rest in peace my friend. You have certainly earned it.

Sending my deepest condolences at this time, I first met Sonny 30 plus yrs ago, while serving in HMCS BRUNSWICKER and Sonny was in the Pipe band. We attended many city parades and celebrations together over the years. I last spoke to him at Branch 69 in the fall. He was a pleasure to chat with and always had a story and a laugh . May you take comfort knowing we share in your loss and strength from our prayers. Rest in Peace Sonny, you deserve it!
Sincerely,
Paul D Smith CPO(ret)

Well Sonny we didn't get to spend time together over the last few years do to circumstances beyond our control. However we did spend a lot of time in my younger years and when I grew up.
Whether it is our road trips birthday gatherings Christmas BBQs or just coming for supper. Along with attending Michael's hockey games or agitating Jacqueline. Or entertaining Cody and holding kayeddence for hours when she was a wee baby. You were a huge part of my life and so happy to have shared everything we did. Even our disagreements on certain subjects. We will miss you dearly any just hope you knew how much I appreciated you always having my back. Sonny we did have a hell of a time!
Cheers Sonny!
Love Erika Dave Micheal Jacqueline and the rest of our gang

So very saddened to learn of the passing of Sonny. I had the privilege of playing darts with and against Sonny for over 30 years at the Adanac. He was a true competitor, a gentleman, and a veteran who was very proud of his service in Korea. His rendition of “Crystal Chandelier” will never be replicated. May you, RIP, Sonny.
