Karen Shalala

Obituary of Karen Sandra Shalala

Karen Sandra Shalala died unexpectedly at her home in Quispamsis on June 8, 2020.  Karen leaves behind her loving husband of 41 years, Bob, and her pets Quinby, Phoebe, Clancy and Pippa.

Karen was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on July 26, 1949 and was the only child of the late Ethel (Dickson) and William J. E. Constable.  Karen grew up in Dartmouth and graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1967.  She then went on to attend Dalhousie University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1971 and her Masters in Library Services Degree in 1976.  She started her career as a librarian at the Legislative Library in Fredericton and later as the associate librarian at the University of New Brunswick Fredericton Law School.

She met her husband Bob at law school and they married in 1978 and moved to Saint John in 1980.  However, Karen always considered herself to be a true Nova Scotian Bluenoser.  Karen carried out library services for two law firms in Saint John.

Karen loved swimming, skating and bicycling.  She loved the Spring and Summer seasons when she would spend much of her time planting and caring for her flowers and shrubs.  Karen loved animals especially dogs and her dog Ollie was her world.  It was her hope that she would get to see Ollie again.  Karen is now finally at peace with her parents and her beloved Ollie.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her very special Aunt Thelma and Uncle Bob Walker.

In keeping with Karen’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.  She will be cremated and buried along side her parents in Fernhill Cemetery at a later date.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to your local SPCA.
