Obituary of Ronald Thomas Rankin

It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald Thomas Rankin announces his passing which occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born on March 19, 1937 in Poodiac, NB. He was the son of the late John and Ella (Cunningham) Rankin.

Ronald is survived by his three children, Janice Rankin, James “Jamie” Rankin (Bonnie), and David “Scott” Rankin; grandchildren, Jacob Adams, Jessica Adams, Leighsal Rankin, Tylor Rankin, Benjamin Rankin, William Rankin; great grandchildren, Rhys Rankin and Tyler Russell. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley (Marks) Rankin and sisters, Helen St. Germain, Marjorie Porter and Grace Smith.

As a young man in his late teens, Ron joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served for several years. Shortly after leaving the Air Force he met the love of his life, Shirley and soon after that became husband and wife and remained married for 62 years. They were members of the Fundy Drifters Trailer Club and trailered all over for 31 years, spending their final years amongst friends at the Pine Cone Trailer in Sussex, where you could find him DJ’ing the music for their weekly dances. He loved his music and clearing the dance floor with his dancing partner, Shirley by his side. And when he wasn't doing that, you could find him tinkering in his workshop. Aside from that, he was a member in good standing until his death with Local #213, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He left an impression wherever went and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family would also like to extend a special Thanks and sincere gratitude to all the staff and volunteers at both the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Bobby's Hospice.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 12:00 PM from the Brenan’s Chapel. A private interment for the family will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
