Obituary of Holly Hawkes

With great sadness, but with appreciation for a life well-lived, the family of Holly Hawkes announce her passing on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at her residence in Turnbull Nursing Home. Born January 29, 1934 in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Charles Herbert and Anna Maude (Mahaney) Hawkes.

Holly was a member of Harmony United Church. She retired from NBTel, where she worked for 40 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and travelled throughout the province training on new telephone systems, making numerous friends through the years. Following her retirement she stayed active volunteering her time at the annual music festival, bowling with children with intellectual disabilities, travelling, bowling, going to the casino, and socializing with her numerous friends. She attended the Tattoo in Halifax every year, and one performance was never enough. She enjoyed watching sports on the television, especially figure skating and tennis.

Holly will be missed by her nieces: Debbie Sawers (Dave), Janet Jones (George), Shelley Lee, and Alison Clarke (Patrick); great-nieces and great-nephews: Ashley Moore (Wesley) and their daughter Julia, Jennifer Jones, Chris Jones, Colin Clarke, and Cole Sullivan; members of her extended family, and many friends.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her step-father, Augusta Lahaye; sister, Doris Lee; and brother, William “Rennie” Hawkes.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff of Turnbull Nursing Home for their excellent care. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
