My deepest condolences for the loss of a son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. I cannot fathom the mix of emotions each of you are feeling. Each of you are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Thinking back to our childhood I remember Matt having an easy going nature, he was quick to laugh, and had an ever present smile. Matt was someone you just enjoyed being around. To the Mitchell family,
Sending you all my love and strength. My first memory of Matthew, demonstrates how kind and genuine he was. We were camping out at a festival and he helped me to my tent to ensure I was okay. He was that guy, one who would go above and beyond, even for someone he just met. So kind and genuine with warm and beautiful smile.

Matt's sister, Heather, has been my dearest friend for over 15 years. Throughout this time, my husband and I have had the great pleasure if getting to know Matt and sharing many fond memories. Matt was the kind of guy that you just liked right away because of his kind and comforting presence. We were blessed to have Matt live in an apartment attached to our home for a short while. During that time, we so enjoyed his company and helpfulness that we sometimes wondered if we shoud be paying him to live there! We also have so many sweet memories of our, at the time, toddler who just adored him.
We will always remember Matt with love and will not forget his warm, genuine smile.
To the Mitchell family, we cannot express the extent of our sympathy. What we can say, is that world was a richer place for having known him.

I would like to send my condolences to the Mitchell family! Below is a collaboration from our coworkers at Irving and from a team that will miss Matt deeply.
He was a quiet guy but once you got to know Matt he was a person who would do anything for his friends and family. He loved his family and especially loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was always telling his family how happy he was to be working with his team and for IRVING.
He graduated with certification in chemistry and spent the last 2years with Irving oil at the East Saint John Terminal on B-Shift. It didn’t take long for us to realize he was a great fit for our team and become very close friends with many of us. Matt’s outlook and positivity for doing his job without hesitation made it easy to rely on him for any task. Matt was always a pleasure to be around, he had a personality bigger than life. We always shared a laugh and a good story interacting with Matt, especially early in the morning working overnight. Matt did not judge, or cared where you came from, if you were a good person, he made you feel like a friend. Never hesitating to smile or saying hello, he was always around to give you a hand.
B shift has lost a good man and someone we called a friend, Matt will be missed.
We all need people in our lives who raise our standards, remind us of our essential purpose, and challenge us to become the- best- version- of- ourselves. (Quote fromMatthew Kelly)
This is what Matt’s team on B-Shift felt about him.

Dear Scott, Valerie, Jonathan, and Heather. Matthew was not only Family, but one of my best friends growing up. To say I'm shocked would be an understatement. I can't begin to tell you guys how sorry I am for not doing a better job at keeping in touch with ALL of you over the years. To try and cope with what's happened, I've been doing my best to remember the good times we had as much as I can. For example, all the fishing trips we had together out on the Silver Harvester off the coast of Nova Scotia with our Dads, Uncles, and Grampy. Whenever we docked, we'd bring out the fishing rods, and every time I caught something I played it cool, but the truth is I was too creeped out by the fish to take it off the hook so Matt would always take the fish off the hook and put it back in the water for me. Another thing I think of is the time we loaded way too much weight on a bench press as kids. I couldn't lift it once, not even CLOSE (not to my surprise), but Matt put the weight belt on, got on the bench, and lifted that thing up like it was nothing. That second rep was a tough one though. I remember all of us playing basketball all the time together as kids too, something all of us from the Island can relate to. And all those times we spent hanging out at Grammy and Grampy Mitchell's house slamming back pans full of Grammy brownies, tons of starburst, amongst several other snacks provided by Grammy and Grampy. I'm thankful I got to have a conversation with him at Aimee and Max's wedding a few years back, although several years had passed since we had spoken, it was like we picked up right where we left off. It was great to see him again after all those years. I just wanted to say Matt was an awesome person you guys, I'm sorry for your loss. Love Brandon.

I have warm memories of Matt 4 years ago at your home where all the family found confort having supper together at the time of Barbara's death.
