Obituary of Frances Horgan

It is with sadness that the family of Frances Edna (Kelly) Horgan announces her passing on Monday, October 19, 2020.  Born in Saint John, NB on September 24, 1928, Frances was the eldest daughter of the late S. Roy Kelly, Q.C. and Gertrude (Cullinan) Kelly.

Frances was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.  As a long-time member of Holy Trinity Parish, Frances contributed many hours to the CWL and to the community Head Start program.  When her children were older, Frances worked for a number of years at Commercial Union Insurance, which she very much enjoyed and where she made many lasting friendships and memories.

Frances will be lovingly remembered by her children, Elizabeth, Susanne (Don), Stephen (Christianne), Mary-Therese (Rick) and Kevin (Christine); adored grandchildren, Alexandra (Justin), Emily, Katie, Meagan and Ben; her dear sisters, Joanne Connolly, Colleen Hoyt, Susan Malone (Thomas) and Patricia Coughlan (Richard); sister-in-law, Janice Bryan (Gerald) and brother-in-law, Gerald Horgan (Roberta) and several nieces and nephews.

Frances was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Gregory Horgan and her daughter, Catherine Mary Ellen who passed away at the age of six in 1958.

Frances’ family would like to extend their thanks to Joan’s Home Care, Brenda Lavigne and Chris Thompson.  Your support and kindness over the last number of years is greatly appreciated.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a family graveside service will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery and a celebration of Frances’ life will be held at a later date.  Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).

In lieu of flowers and for those who wish, donations may be made to Romero House, Bobby’s Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
