Obituary of Peter Haines

It is with broken hearts that the family of Peter Allen Haines, beloved husband of Marianne (Morrison) Haines, announces his peaceful passing at the Saint John Parkland Shannex, Tucker Hall, surrounded by family on October 23, 2020, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Saint John on November 17, 1947, he was the son of the late Eugene “Red” and Evelyn (Green) Haines.

Peter loved the great outdoors and could always find a hobby or a sport to enjoy, like kayaking or cross-country skiing. He loved fishing and hunting and would go as often as the season would allow. Peter loved riding his motorcycle with Marianne and going on trips across the country - his favourite being the time they went from Saint John all the way to Vancouver Island. He and Marianne joined the Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club and were also members of the Atlantic Sport Touring Riders Association (ASTRA). Peter kept his friends close and enjoyed socializing. He was also a long-time employee of N.B. Tel, retiring after 32 years with the company. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Beyond all that, Peter was a family man. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished time spent with his loved ones and lived each day to the fullest. He will be sorely missed.

Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years Marianne; their children: Glen (Chris Thomson) Haines and Melanie (Jason) Webb; grandchildren: Adrienne (Brayden) Harnish, Mikayla Webb, and Mason Webb; great-grandson: Wyatt Harnish; sister: Susan (Don) Stone; brothers: David (Kim) Haines, Gordon (Paulette) Haines, and Barry Haines; aunts: Roberta “Bobbie” (Haines) King and Alice (Haines) Manzer as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Peter was predeceased by his brothers Glendon Haines and Brian Haines, and sister Sandra Olsson.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) where visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, from 2 – 6 PM.
