Obituary of Sister Veronica Hanlon
Sister Veronica Julia Hanlon (Sister Mary Olive) peacefully went home to her God on October 22, 2020. Born in Saint John, NB on February 15, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James and Lillian (George) Hanlon.
Before Sister Veronica entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception in 1953, she worked at the T.S. Simms & Co. Brush Factory.
Her ministries included education in Woodstock, NB, Vancouver, BC and Prince Albert, SK. In Saint John, she offered hospitality at Villa Madonna Retreat House, welcomed children to St. Peter’s Home and devoted many years to the care of the Sisters at St. Vincent’s Convent and Ruth Ross Residence.
Sister Veronica was immensely proud of her Irish heritage and was always happy to share memories of her visit to Ireland. She was known for her warm smile, kindness and gentle manner.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Lillian; brothers, Joseph, John, Frederick and sisters, Mary (Bordage), Lillian and Helen (Boyle).
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Interment will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
