Obituary of Dorothy "Dot" Ratcliffe
It is with appreciation for a life well lived that the family announces the passing of Dorothy “Dot” Josephine Ratcliffe, wife of the late Clifford Ratcliffe. Born in Saint John on March 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Williams) Hewitt.
Dot was a lady of many passions and hobbies. She tended her garden with care, enjoyed knitting, sewing, painting, quilting, making pottery, and cooking. She was very social and loved visiting her friends, and always had an open door for her children’s friends to come over and stay as well. Above all else, she loved her family. Sunday nights were reserved for family dinners. Dot was a special mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Dot will be missed by her daughters: Cathy (John) MacNeil and Linda (Bill) Gould; sons: Wesley Ratcliffe, Jeffrey (Sylvia) Ratcliffe, Steven (Lisa) Ratcliffe, and Barry (Debbie) Ratcliffe; sisters: Barbara Dupere, Ann Alderman, and Elizabeth (Brian) Neil; sisters-in-law: Lois Hewitt, Louise “Petney” Hewitt, and Norma Ratcliffe of Massachusetts; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Dot was predeceased by her sisters: Ruth Roy and Pat Hayes; and brothers: Butch, Bradley and George Hewitt. Special thanks to the all the family members for supporting and caring for Dot all these years.
