Barb Hannah

Obituary of Barb Hannah

With broken hearts, the family of Barbara Hannah announce her passing on Monday, November 30, 2020 at her home in the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews. Barb was born in Sydney, NS to her parents, the late Rodney and Mary Olive (Hodgson) Hannah.

Everyone who knew Barb knew how much she genuinely loved and cared for people, which was evident in her years working as a Sign Language Interpreter within the school system. She cherished her years spent with the children, helping them learn and grow. Following her time as an interpreter, Barb learned bookkeeping and started her own business. She also helped at the Clipper Shipp Motel in the summers and loved meeting all the travelers that came to stay. Barb was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness, and kept in contact with all of her friends from her local congregations daily. Barb loved children and they were drawn to her, many affectionately calling her Aunt Bob. She had a deep love for Cape Breton, and returned for vacations on several occasions. When Barb wasn’t socializing, she could be found getting creative with pottery, crafting, or her beautiful cross-stitching. In her younger years she loved to ski, water-ski, she tried sky-diving and was a competitive swimmer.

Barb will be deeply missed by her sisters, Sandra, of London, UK and Nancy; brothers, Rodney and Richard (Heather) of Calgary; cherished nieces, Cassie and Jillian; great aunt, Grace Lee; aunts, Betty Barton and Kathy Monaghan (Mike); uncle, Fred Fuller; many beloved cousins with special mention of her cousin David Hodgson (Tracy) and their children Chelsea, Brody, Caleb and also many dear friends.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A private service will be held at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by the family.
