Obituary of Irene Rootes

With heavy hearts, the family of Irene Rootes announces her passing, which occurred on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Irene was born in Port Glasgow, Scotland on December 16, 1938; a daughter of the late Andrew and Letitia (Lever) McWhinnie and the loving wife of Tim Rootes.

Along with her husband, surviving are her sisters, Margaret, Mary, Anne and Jean; brothers, Andrew, John and Robert; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral liturgy will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM.  Guests are asked to use the courtyard entrance, where staff will greet and assist you with COVID-19 protocol.  For those not in attendance, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting Irene’s obituary on Brenan’s website. 

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Arthritis Society NB, Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB, Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue or to World Vision.
