Marcel Landry

Obituary of Marcel Joseph Landry

It is with great sadness that the family of Marcel Joseph Landry announce his passing on January 25, 2021at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Caraquet, NB on October 20, 1919, he was a son of the late John and Artemise (Theriault) Landry.

In his earlier years, Marcel worked at the Saint John Port as a longshoreman (ILA Local 273) and as a carpenter (Carpenters Union Local 1386). He had a passion for carpentry and built a boat in his basement (knocked out a wall to get it out!) which was enjoyed by the family for many years. Known for his thriftiness, Marcel would always try to make or build something on his own rather than spend money buying something new. Above all, he loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marcel will be lovingly remembered by his children, Marcella Smart (Rae), Reg, John (Peggy), Bob (Gail) and Dennis (Sue) and John Ferguson (Carol); grandchildren, Rae Jr. (Merride), Arlene (Dean), Lesa (Dan), Brandon (Lesa), John Jr. (Janet), Shari, Jennifer (Barry), Alison (Phillipe), Christina (Scott), Nicholas (Whitney), Jeffery (Amanda) and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Spencer, Mallory, Samuel, Marcia, Bridgett, Jean-Marc, Lauren, Grace, Arianne, Victoria, Nova; and two more on the way; and great-great-granddaughter, Everlee.

In addition to his parents and wife of 72 years, Alice, Marcel was predeceased by his 17 brothers and sisters and great-granddaughter, Alyssa.

Marcel’s family would like to mention special thanks to Pam Hopey for all the care and compassion shown to him. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
